Knots being phased out?

You can use knots per hour to measure deceleration, too... :-)
(or should it be furlongs per fortnight? I always started the engine
when the Loran-gave an ETE of 99 hours.)

Yeah, but "deceleration" usually means we just ran aground and sailors
never like to think about "deceleration"...(c;

Being phased out? Knot so.

Anyway the bottom line is that they are knot!

Phased out that is!

It wont be long until the EU 'resets' the prime meridian through the
administrative capital of Brussels .... just like the French tried to
do a short time after the French Revolution ..... and then defined the
meter as ~ 1/10.000,000 of the circumference of the earth.

Just remember this is what you get when you install authoritarian
socialism .... nothing make 'sense' and you HAVE to blindly follow the
'rules' .... ask Microsoft how they feel about the EU.

Yeah, all measuration in units of 10, just like our numbering system.
How could anything make less sense? Hmm, I guess you could have the
Imperial system, where an there are twelve inches in a foot, 3 feet in
a yard, 5280 feet in a mile which was derived from 8 furlongs.

I'll bet it really galls the ISO that the Earth's circumference doesn't fit
nicely into the metric system.

40,066 KM divided by 100 degrees divided by 100 minutes divided by 100
seconds = 40.066 meters. A messy little number that just doesn't fit.

All such arbitrary measurement systems are silly. We should base all
measurements on the half-life of Cesium, as the good Lord intended.

Yeah, you'll think that is fine until the EU decides it needs to
standardize computers and does it without any regard for logic, what is
in use, what is or is not in the public domain, or anything else.

Imagine that the pencil necked geek that came up with this initiative is
on a Token Ring network and decides that Token Ring is what is best for
the EU and allows not other interface to the world.

I don't begrudge anyone the metric system, I understand it, can converse
in it fluently, and use it when and where I want or when it makes more
sense. But I also use the Imperial system and a number of other
standards that have come into common and widespread use over the years.

U.S. commerce has gone to providing markings in both systems and that
works for everybody. But to allow some anal retentive, my way or no
way, petty beaureaucrat ram something like this down the world's throat
simply does not make any sense.

Sorry 'bout that. I would have sent advance warning, but I'm never all that

Being an engineer, presumably with a math background, you should
appreciate that any system of ten sucks.

Base 12 is the only way to go. :)

If you could think straight for just a minute (which I doubt), you'd see the
beauty of 17.
