Default Bare RayMarine ST6001+ Autopilot?

Can anyone tell me if the control/display head for a RayMarine ST6001+
can be used to drive an actuator directly, if done so thru relays?

I ask because it appears that the ST5001 and ST4000 do exactly that, for
low current devices.

My application: I have an old, reliable BenMar rotary actuator that is
built like a brick s@#$house, but the control panel in the cockpit is
getting old and could use upgrading.

Bob:

I am pretty sure that the ST6001 is simply a display/control head. You need
a course computer such as an S1, 2 or 3 to function as an autopilot with the
ST6001.

The ST5000 series were as you say an integrated display/course computer, but
not the ST6001.

I don't know about the ST5000 series, but the ST6001 is only remote
control for the course computer (S1 or S1G). For example the compass
gyro hook up is directly to the computer, not to the ST6001.

Bob,

What you might have been thinking of was the Raymarine Sailpilot. This
device looked like the ST6000 control head but had all the electronics
in it. It was discontinued about 18 months or more ago. They still make
the ST4000 tiller pilots that way but they have very limited drive
capability.

We just installed an ST4000 tiller pilot into a new Benneteau 31.
