Default Simrad AP-35: Seastate settings

Does anyone have information on seastate settings for Simrad's AP-35?
The manual mentions that you can manually set the seastate to 1 - 10,
but does not explain whether 1 or 10 is for flat seas. I've
experimented underway, but haven't seen much / any difference between
1 and 10.

Also, any thoughts on how the auto seastate works? Is there some
learning / averaging period the unit uses?
