Default GpsMap60C/76C NMEA Problem Rides Again

Hi There,

I friend mine bough a new GpsMap60C and he is geting the same problem
we have 2 yrs ago, with the GpsMap76 and the e-Trex Legend, that is,
incompatibility with old Autohelm autopilots and new Raytheon too,
because the lengthy names of waypoints, wrong NMEA RMB bearing to
Waypoint (gps is sending BRG Magnetic whreas the Autopilot expects
Magnetic) and so on, as I had reported here 2 yrs ago.

The problem was subsequently fixed by Garmin with the implementation
of the so called "Advanced NMEA Setup" in GpsMap76,
GpsMap176/176c/2006/2010 but never in Legend.

Now it reapeared in 60C and I suspect, in the new GpsMap76C, because
the software is e-Trex Legend based, not based in the Map76 or
map176.

I was thinking in a new Map76C, but I will quit until this problem is
fixed again, now I am very angry with this thing, because 2 yrs ago we
have to figth about 3 or more month with garmin to fix the problem.

Regards

Hi you all,
It seems Pascal opened the Pandora box. Warning to maritime users!
Garmin`s Map60C (and probably Map76C) have serious incompatibilities
with some Autohelm pilots! When interfaced with Autohelm 2000+
tillers, the Bearing to Waypoint NMEA message gets misunderstood, and
the tiller will steer completely off route, potentially a very
hazardous situation, specially if the user is unaware of the
problem. If that is not enough, then also forget using TrackBack when
interfaced with the Autohelm. And to add injury to insult, my Map60C
"freezes" completely after a few minutes when trying to Trackback.
These problems were fixed in march/april 2002 for the Map76 and some
other Garmins, but for some reaosn popped back in the brand new
Map60C. I hope Garmin fixes these bugs rapidly, customers like me were
caught by surprise.
