ICOM M802 Experiences - NMEA interface stupidity

so why not crack open the 802 brain and install an opto-isolator
inside? one could get a twinax connector with a BNC body that
oughta fit into the same hole that's there and then the NMEA-0183
link could float like it is supposed to do.
