The Dymo tape seems to stick to just about everything. It helps if
you round off the corners a little before you stick it down.

You're probably right. I used "fusion" on my aluminum rudder plates. It
sticks well and is surprisingly abrasion resistant. Shiny stainless may be a
different story though. It did a great job on my coated lifelines, btw.

may have those little chains that tether them to the deck fitting, like the
pens at the bank.

No one puts or sucks anything into/from our boat but under my direct
supervision. I know exactly what caps hide what, and the plates are
marked indelibly for any who can read English.

Stainless caps last pretty much forever. Plastic, in a word, doesn't.
(I had to cut out an old one far younger than our fuel and water
plates.)

Don't they have the contents name cast into them?
If not, why not get those chromed, curved, plates with the words cast in and
fix them to the deck next to the fillers.
You could use 5200 if you think your deck might be cored-or maybe even

A really inexpensive solution is to buy a Dymo label maker and an
assortment of tape colors - usually about $10 at your local office
supply. These are also very useful for labeling halyard stoppers and
other deck hardware.

In addition to labeling all of my deck plates, I had small color coded
platic laminated placques made up which mount near the deck plate.

Do you have access to a drill press? You could make some dimples around the
outer edge of the caps and fill them with enamel.

Interesting idea... I do, assuming I can find the drill press behind all the
boxes in the garage.
