BlueJacket Text/Photo/Video logs for Down East Circle Route
I've just finished moving BlueJacket from the Chesapeake to Ossining, NY,
which is just N of the Tappan Zee bridge. I had a great trip and returned home to pick up Sue, who is recovering from major abdominal surgery. As of next week she'll be cleared to be on the boat. Anyhow, while at home I had a chance to update my video, photo and text logs. If anyone is interested, they're located at Reports: http://www.geoffschultz.org/Log_Page...p?region=2008: Photos/Video: http://www.geoffschultz.org/2008_Sailing/Photos/ -- Geoff www.GeoffSchultz.org |

You almost got a picture of my old office building at Lincoln Harbor in Hoboken, NJ. The Hudson River is quite possibly one of the most scenic cruising venues on the east coast. Take a run north to Catskill or so for a great flat water trip while your wife recovers. What kind of AIS are you using? |

What kind of AIS are you using? Wayne, I'm using the Miltech SR-161 AIS receiver. I can report that either the SR-161 or the RayMarine C-80 has a limit of 100 targets, as I regularly saw a max of 100 targets within 8 miles. When it's not so target rich, I often see targets in the 40-50 mile range and have seen up then up to 70 miles. I don't quite know how AIS transmits that far, but then again I was listening to the Long Island Sound CG group from the time that I entered the Delaware bay. Oh, we're headed N...up to the St. Lawrance and then to Newfoundland, so Sue should have plenty of flat water to recover in. I'm just a little concerned with the 45 locks that we have the manage, but I suspect that's just me being concerned for her health. She's restricted to lifting nothing above 8 lbs, so she can't fend off. As a result, I'll just have to do a very good job of driving. -- Geoff |

I think the target limit is on the C-80. AFIK, the SR-161 just receives the messages and passes them on. I'm looking at the SR-161/2 plus this thing: http://www.milltechmarine.com/products_watchmate.htm. It which claims to track 128 targets. Are you using a separate antenna or a splitter? I keep holding off hoping that "B" will come out because ACR has a nice looking B unit, but... -- Tom. |

: http://www.geoffschultz.org/2008_Sailing/Photos/ Obviously fake videos. NOBODY's hull is that smooth and clean! There's not even a blister anywhere! Look at that prop! Obviously it has never been anywhere or it would be dinged up somewhere....(c; Noone has put a proper commemorative footprint on those new cushions, either. It just wouldn't seem right sailing on a boat this CLEAN! Boats should look lived in.... |

: http://www.geoffschultz.org/2008_Sailing/Photos/ Great videos, Geoff. Thanks for posting them. I don't think it's fair that YouTube suggests watching: Ultimate Survivor: Episode 3 from TheRescueChannel when you bring up your videos of Delaware Bay....(c; I see your CG tearing up some poor guy's boat looking for his fire extinguisher just like ours does....pure harrassment and unwarranted searches. Looks like they're ganging up on him on both sides scraping against his gelcoat. |

I've always shot stills and now I'm branching out into video. It takes a LOT of time. Regarding the prop: the MaxProp just rebuilt by the factory as there was too much play in it. It certainly looks pretty...now... And regarding the cushions: Believe me, Bill & I did everything within our power to keep them from being christened. If you want to come a christen them, be my guest. Just remember that Sue's on board now and you'd be risking limb and life! :-) Today I spent 6 hours replacing my ProSine inverter/charger with a spare that I had at home. This only required unplumbing the water maker control panel, removing the hot water tank and then replacing the charger with the spare. Unfortunately the spare was completely dead...ARGH! So I had to switch back to the old unit which is having inverter problems. I've replaced this unit 4 times now. It's a piece of crap. Anyhow, tomorrow we shove off tomorrow and begin the trip. Lets hope that the systems hold together! -- Geoff |

It's a Charles IQ2300. The last three days we've been installing it, and, apart from a crappy instruction manual, it is brilliant! It has inbuilt intuition on when to charge battery banks or when to supply power, it knows to differentiate between generator input or shore power.. All in all, a nice bit of kit. And they're made in Ohio! http://www.charlesindustries.com/mai..._inverter.html -- Molesworth |
