Default faulty rivets may have hastened Titanic's sinking

Maybe not in the classic sense, but a big ship can carry lots of
passengers, and freight.

With the price of fuel, isn't it possible that the ocean liner is
cheaper to operate than a fleet of airplanes, et all.

Passenger travel, I doubt. Time=money for the commercial flier

Freight: Perhaps, particularly for time-insensitive loads. I get a
"feel" that somehow the money for dredging the ICW up the east coast
has been found, which can take a lot of load off of I-95. I certainly
haven't heard much about unusual grounding spots for a few months.

Military traffic=ASAP, "What cost?". (Okay, lots of military freight
(almost said "fright") moves by boat.)
