I started to read ,, the postings .. about rivets.. then Wibur, Roger,
Liberals,, Conservatives..

For me: Titanic = boat going too fast, into ice, and then sunk.. That is it
, nothing more.

I wonder though... with the price of fuel, if the ocean liner will be making
a comeback.

Maybe not in the classic sense, but a big ship can carry lots of passengers,
and freight.
With the price of fuel, isn't it possible that the ocean liner is cheaper to
operate than a fleet
of airplanes, et all.

In many parts of the world, passenger shipping is common. Why not in the
USA?

My boat is located near a military runway. All day long the big jets come
and go. What a waste of fuel.

Soon, fuel will be at the $5 dollar per gallon rate. I spoke to a motor
boat, big cruiser, owner today. He
said he doesnt' plan on taking her off the dock .. she will be a condo.

Meanwhile,, plane after plane goes overhead.

Passenger travel, I doubt. Time=money for the commercial flier

Freight: Perhaps, particularly for time-insensitive loads. I get a
"feel" that somehow the money for dredging the ICW up the east coast
has been found, which can take a lot of load off of I-95. I certainly
haven't heard much about unusual grounding spots for a few months.

Military traffic=ASAP, "What cost?". (Okay, lots of military freight
(almost said "fright") moves by boat.)

Perhaps a chilling parallel to the current Boeing "Dreamliner" supply
problems caused (partly) by the lack of "fasteners".... (rivets?)
