Well good on you both! Do be aware that it's not just having the ability to
take passengers for hire. You also have a greater level of responsibility,
and you need to have insurance that matches your intended work. You'll also
need to get your TSA TWIC card if you intend to use your license, and you
should make sure you always stay current with the various certifications..
e.g., CPR/FA. All of these things cost money of course.

Do you really need the TWIC if you don't need access to a secure
docks? Many of the local charter skippers aren't getting them here in
Honolulu. I don't know if that just means they're out of compliance
or if they don't need them...

Unfortunately, yes according to the website and the guy on the phone.
Sigh... they'll be out of compliance, but will probably be under the radar
for a while. At some point, if they're boarded, you're talkin fine at a
minimum.
