Default cmap magnetic variation

Can someone please tell me where to find the magnetic variation on
cmap, I can find the tidal info and everything else but I can't find
the variation?

Any help would be appreciated.

It should be "Built-in" to the *software that calculates Bearings to
Waypoints, and Objects. *They wouldn't necessarily, actually "Print"
it on the screen, as anytime you ask for a "Bearing" to something
it should show either, a "True", or "Magnetic" Bearing, as determined
by the Selected Preference.

Thanks Bruce but I now can't find where to set that preference, its
probably right under my nose, I can't find it in the config settings
or in the legend. Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Steve

Surely it's built into your GPS, which is connected to the software?

I was hoping to be able to find out the magnetic variation when doing
route planning prior to passages when i don't normally have the gps
turned on or hooked up to the computer. The variation is normally
stated on paper charts so I was thinking it should be somewhere on
cmap?

Since variation at any particular location varies from year to year, maybe
that's the reason not to print it on the charts. I suppose you could
calculate it from the gps, but this would be a nuisance.

Kinda OT but you could try http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/wist/magfield.jsp.
There are some other tools if you look around the area. There's also
horrible code which looks like it's been translated from FORTRAN to C
by robot if you want to roll you're own. I don't know what chart
software you are using to read your C-Map database but my feeling is
that the db itself doesn't include variation data unless there is an
anomaly. AFIK, most navigation programs that convert between T&M use
general code like the stuff NOAA gives away and they may or may not
provide a user interface for it.
