How to find boats sailing from California to Marquesas this spring 2004
"Rick & Linda Bernard" wrote in message ... I would guess you would go through the Panama Canal. I have heard that the price of the transit may make you think twice. Are you sure? |

How to find boats sailing from California to Marquesas this spring 2004
Does anyone know how I
might find other boats sailing from California to the Marquesas in early May of 2004? Most boats gather in Puerto Vallarta and leave from there in April. They have a radio net on 8104 I think. It is not really a rally but the boats spend some time in PV before they leave and they normaly leave in small groupes. Dick |

I was thinking of the Marquesas Keys between Key West and the Dry Tortugas
(off Florida). It makes much more sense to go to the Marquesas Islands in the South Pacific. I do stand corrected. Just a Gulf of Mexico sailor. "Steve" wrote in message ... ??? The OP was from California to Marquesas.. The last time I checked, they were both in the Pacific side of the Panama.. (no flame intended). Steve s/v Good Intentions |

How to find boats sailing from California to Marquesas this spring 2004
Hello Bob,
Glad I found you before you head off cruising with a whole boatload of useless other cruisers. Do yourself & crew a big favor - stay away from other cruisers and associate with the locals. None of this rally - marina - rally - another marina - same cruisers - another marina ... bull****. Grow up a bit and meet the people who own and live in the other parts of the world you've passing thru. I'm serious - you're ****ing away you best chance at really enjoying the trip by choosing the rally-marina horse**** cop-out. So - be man enough to check out your boat and set sail without all the training wheels - if you need training wheels - take a 747 and leave the driving to them. Why get all the crap of ocean passages and none of the I-did-it-rewards - you won't get that feeling in a herd. Does anyone know how I might find other boats sailing from California to the Marquesas in early May of 2004? Are there rallies? Supposedly about 300-400 boats go every year and presumably many in April/May as that's the last chance before huricane season starts in July. Next chance is November and if you go then, you get to the SOuth Pacific in the heat and humidity of the austral summer. Thanks, Bob |
