You'll probably order direct from China ... that where all this stuff
is made and thats where all our (former) capital has migrated to. Unless you're a shyster, an 'educator' or politician ... you'll have to go 'elsewhere' than the US to make money or buy anything. |

Too much of the US economy is based upon excess consumption and easy credit.
Many people buy things they don't really need or can't afford. Just take a look on the water - big, expensive Bayliners with idiots at the helm. The US economy is now returning to where it should be - houses are becoming more affordable and leisure good are once again becoming a luxury. I most certainly welcome it! Less people on the water, food prices will solve the obesity epidemic and gas prices will solve traffic and pollution problems. Lower tax revenue will shrink the size of government. People will learn to focus more on living rather than spending. |

@corp.supernews.com: But if some aspiring governmebt worker figures out how to tax the wind... Gotcha covered in South Carolina. We have "personal property tax" on all boats, even my 9.6' Watertender someone on the dock gave me. The STATE bill for its license numbers just came in the mail, again. Luckily, its engine is under 5hp, putting it under the tax radar here. It's a Yamaha 3. I pay more PP tax on the dingy than I do on my old Mercedes because the dingy is a 2000 model. I've a mind to take THEIR boat down and just park it on the goddamned county's front stoop....I only used it twice this year and it's simply not worth it. My neighbor's kids used it for a kiddie pool more than I used it for a boat! Makes a great kiddie pool....(c; |

It is only the forces of nature and its natural consequences that prevail. The best mankind can do is delay the inevitable, but only at a much higher cost. It is far simpler and moral to let those who act irresponsibly pay and pay alone for their actions. Their failures will serve as great lessons to those more prudent. The notion that "one is thy brother's keeper" can only lead to mutually assured self destruction. Such a philosophy in the political arena is known as "Liberalism" which is a death sentence upon a civilized and responsible society. Sharing blame, ill fortune and misery are the signs of a civilization in decay. |

It's not like they have a monopoly on marine supplies. If you don't like them, buy somewhere else. I use them when it's convenient and I need something in a hurry. It can be very handy having 3 stores within 5 miles of the house but frankly I don't see how they can afford the luxury. |

I have zip, zero, nada interest in West Marine other than I buy products from them, as well as lots of other vendors. I do my price research and buy from the least expensive vendor. My point is that why do you shop there if you don't like them? If there are other places that offer better deals, support those stores. The reality of the matter is that in many areas there aren't alternatives. Adn when there are, there often isn't a lot of price difference. If this was such a great business to get into, the market would be full of competitors. But as you can see by WMAR's performance, it's a tough market. I think that you should put up, or shut up.
