So I think submarine cruises are a huge market for the future with
billions of $$$ to earn.

When I was a teenager in Washington, D.C., we used to drive down to
Haynes Point to watch the submarine races on the Potomac River.

Hey...I took the 'Nautilus submarine tour at Disney World in '93.
that was colourful and interesting. :-)

Hmm...went "cruising" for 16 hours on USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) with
a friend of mine who was a chief radioman aboard her. I got to LISTEN
to the ocean on the main passive sonar, which was fascinating. The
only time I got to "see" the ocean was when we were surfaced and 7 of
us at a time climbed up the 4 long ladders in the sail up to the tiny
observation deck in the top of her massive sail. Her bow always
remains under water when she's surfaced. a huge bow wave climbs up
over her sleek hull all the way to the base of the sail below us and a
giant whitewater water falls is created when this huge wave falls off
the rounded deck port and starboard creating a whitewater wake that
can be seen way, way back astern of her fin.

I would not trade THAT day cruising for all the days in any kind of
pleasure craft in my life. I was very humbled by the absolute
professionalism I witnessed the entire 16 hours we were at sea. It
was the experience of a lifetime......

I was aboard a submarine once with large viewing ports that was about
80 feet long. This boat was designed for taking tourists to view the
reefs around Grand Cayman. I suspect that the slow speed and great
cost of such a vessel would make for a pretty small market as a
private yacht. It would be FAR cheaper to put a small battery-only sub
on a conventional yacht as deck cargo and use it for touring the reefs
after you anchor. Best of both worlds that way, plus you could always
get Discovery Channel charters when you were low on $$$.

I bet it would be even cheaper if someone eliminated the boat entirely
and came up with some type of self contained underwater breathing
apparatus...
....so waterworld visitors would be spared the experience of meeting
close up someone who just discovered how claustrophobic they
really are.
