I was at the Seattle Boat Show yesterday, and saw for the first time a
product called Propspeed (http://www.propspeed.com/). It looked like a sort of thin rubbery coating - they had a prop there on display with the stuff on it. Since I am facing a haulout this spring, I would like to know if anyone has tried this stuff? bob s/v Eolian Seattle |

On a haul out in Opua I had one prop in the shop so put Propspeed on the available prop and then put lanolin onto the other just before launching. Fouling seemed identical on both... The word is that it works well if you spin the prop often, but if you spin the prop often grease works too... The other issue that seemed important was preparation of the prop. A good etching agent and attention to the timing of application seem to be critical. -- Tom. |

I managed to get around the shaft revealed not the first growth of any sort, despite long periods of inactivity. Expensive, but I'll do it again when I have to (and it's out of the water, of course!). AWESOME.... just finishing my second year.
1st year my wife and I did it... 100% by the book. lasted an entire year (12 month season hear in FL) We have a lot of fouling her and although they did get barnacles, they would either spin off when used OR I would use a scotch guard pad (Red or black) and it came right off. Very easy. 2nd year I hired a pro... YUK.. came off in 2 weeks. They redid it for free and it lasted about 6 mos. Some of it is still around but not much. I had a prop problem and redid the wheels while the boat was still in the water so I did the wheels when i had them off and they have lasted about 5 mos so far. READ the directions especially the timing... get a buddy... not easy to make the timing by yourself. DON'T USE ANY METAL to clean it, stay away from SAND. If you hire it done... take the time to go over the process and monitor them.
