Hi
I am heading to La Paz Mex to sail the Sea of Cortez for a week in February. I have been there before but just did the recomended touristy things. Can anyone give me some inside information as to anchorages, side trips, dingy excursions, snorkling locations etc.. I am also spending a week on land, are there any good side trips that are within a days drive of La Paz. Sterling |

I was there last January, and we used charts, etc. from www.gerrycruise.com/. The information was near perfect. Later in the year I had an opportunity to meet Gerry in person. He's a great guy. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com |

Double check the swimming, etc. In a week you will not be going far (100 miles) and maybe no-where depending on the winter winds out of the North. Dingy excursions - if the N winds are 25-35 you might be lucky to go ashore - or maybe not. Land trips - nothing except for the circle trip from LP to Cabo and back - go one road & return the other. Cabo is a crappy time-share tourist pit. The circle road is worth a day trip. Depending on you, you might make the extended trip up to see the whales in the lagoon. The reason cruisers like LP is because most things are walkable and there's few dumb time-share tourists around. Otherwise there's not much there for a quick trip. Most of the good cruising anchorages are 70 + KM north, although there are some stops in the islands just north of LP. |
