Pricing for Coastal Explorer is not yet set in stone, but I expect it
to be about $300. While this is more expensive than Fugawi's products
and The Capn First Mate, it is significantly less expensive than The
Capn Voyager, Nobeltec VNS, and RayTech Navigator. Yet Coastal
Explorer includes most of the useful features found in the more
expensive programs, and even a few that they don't. We feel that
Coastal Explorer has the best feature set and the most reasonable
price of any navigation software available, especially when you
consider that most of your charts will be free in the US!

The web site states Windows XP only.
Not very nice for those of us that don't like XP.

Captain Jacks.

So I don't see how Capn is locking one into one
particular format that they somehow control.

Isn't it common knowledge that the company that owns The Capn also owns
Softchart and the online retailer Captain Jacks? Ever wonder why Captain
Jacks doesn't sell Maptech charts any longer?

Brad -

A look at your website shows some interesting features. Supporting a wide
variety of charts is the way to go. I expect you'll sell more than a few
copies. For myself (I mention this not as criticism but in hopes of
getting a feature I need) I won't be buying anything in the future unless it
supports Admiralty ARC charts, as well as the ones you listed. Once you get
away from North America, they're the gold standard. IMHO.

To reply, lose the capitals and do the obvious.

FUGAWI Marine ENC supports the S-57 charts, has 10 years of
development behind it and also supports Palm (including Garmin iQue)
and Pocket PC. A terrific deal as it also supports BSB, ECW, and DRG
chart formats and the user can also scan a paper chart!

I've been a contented user of The Capn since ver. 4.3 up to 6.1 (upgrading
each time the card comes).

However, the latest upgrade would require that I move to a more power full
laptop computer (I suspect, because of the Mosaic crap and SoftCharts). Now
I'm finding it difficult to get product support for Capn Voyager.

Rather than spend the $49 for an upgrade that I can't use (recent marked dwn
special), I'm considering crossing over to Fugawi 3 for $99.

I looked over the Demo and read about all the features and conclude that
although it isn't as 'slick' as The Capn, it is more flexible (in chart
formats), more capable and user friendly.. It also can be used with the
street/highway (land based) map data bases. Allows you to scan and register
your own charts. The list goes on, while the basic navigation program seems
simple and user friendly..

With an upgrade, I could also be using the ENC vector charts.

So, Why am I here?? I would like the hear from others who might have been
exposed to either Fugawi and/or The Capn.

Thanks for any comments on actual usage.

Steve

Greetings all,

I am an agent for Fugawi (and Cdn and US electronic charts). In
addition to selling the product, I will provide an on line, no cost
demo of the products and fee based training (on line or live) on the
use of the products, and naivigation.

Hope to hear from any of you.
