I just drove by a Jet Ski on someone's lawn for $18,500.00 or BO. Do
people really pay more for one of these obnoxious things *used* than I did
for a boat that I could live on and go around the world in if I was
inclined?

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise considering the cost of motorcycles and
outboard motors but it just points out what a bargain used fiberglass boats
are. Looks like someone on Ebay is going to get a 41 foot ketch for not
much more than I paid for my 32 footer.

There is no financial excuse not to be out there cruising under sail if
that's what you want to do.

I wish you wouldn't encourage them, Roger. I think there are too many
people on the water already who are good only at signing their name on
the line at the bottom of the loan papers.

It takes more than the financial means to buy a sailboat in order to
sail it safely and sanely. In this very group there's that fool Skip
Grundick and now somebody named Grandma Beasley both of whom think it is
an accomplishment to write long posts about how badly they screwed up on
their most recent sail. They call a comedy of errors sailing. They
obviously can afford boats but they can't handle them because they're
stupid and they act like they're PROUD of being stupid. Sooner or later
they're going to get hurt themselves or get some innocent bystander hurt
or worse. You can only blunder your way though anything for so long
before it catches up on you.

Some wise advice for you. If you know of a great deal on a boat, keep it
to yourself. Same thing goes if you know of a great anchorage. As soon
as you spread the word you have every other idiot in the world buying
the boat and becoming a hazard to serious sailors and also blundering
into your great anchorage and anchoring right on top of you and dragging
around, making generator noises 24/7, racing around in their inflatables
at all hours of the day and night and generally being a big nuisance at
best and a hazard to life and limb at worse. Let's not encourage these
idiots, please.

Roger,

I took a quick look at e-bay and suspect that you saw too many 0s. There
are lots of these things for under $3000. Scary.

All the houses in the same neighborhood are for sale at 8 times what they
paid for them, too. They're all dreaming. Jetski sales have plummeted.
Many of the ski companies have either started making other things or just
gone belly up....

Democrats are raising taxes on oil companies by $16,000,000,000.
Oil companies don't pay taxes, just like every other company.
Consumers pay all taxes, corporate and individual.
What's the price of a gallon of regular going to go to to pay $16B more?

I was going to say something pithy, but upon reflection, the only real
response is "Yup!".

I did a thorough look-over of a sister-ship to ours -- looking for the
flaws we know so well. She was beautiful! Though I didn't see her
sails, I would have taken her as she stood on a "shakedown cruise" to
the Caribbean (starting very slow).

We later found out that those potential buyers backed out of an
accepted bid of $3,500.

Cruising boats are selling at depressed prices now.

Im living away from sydney where my thunderbird was and i was going to be
away for some time so i offered it to all my friends to use. no takers. so
i offered it to strangers to use. no takers. so i offered it for sale for
$1000 and couldnt sell it. So i tried giving it away. No takers. So
finally i put it on ebay starting at .99c with no reserve and got $52 for
it. The buyer never collected it.

The real question though is why do i never get offers like this when *im*
looking for a boat?

I think you need to go back and read the sign again . . . 18.5K just
doesn't make sense.

PWC's, as another poster noted, are a lot like motorcycles. Some
riders operate intelligently and we are barely aware of their
presence. OTOH, there are people like the guy I saw recently on the
interstate north of Seattle, popping a wheelie for what seemed to be
over a 1/4 of a mile; sadly it's not if but when will the lives of
their loved ones be devasted by the news of a death by stupidity.

Take care . . .

John

No, it means they stopped buying because they got screwed by jetski
companies before.....like I did from Yamaha.

These *******s keep calling me so I'm feeding them to the spambots.
