Cruising Routes - Literature
Do you guys have recommendations besides, but similar to, Cornell's 'World Cruising Routes' for armchair blue water cruising / far distant trip planning? Thanks! |

I don't think there is that much difference between 96 and 02 but you might be able to get a used copy of the 02 version on Amazon for a reasonable price. You may also be interested in "Landfalls of Paradise" by Earl Hinz and Jim Howard. Describes destinations in the South Pacific. Old editions are available but the newest can be bought as a paperback for a reasonable price. |

You might be interested in http://www.noonsite.com or the "World Cruising Handbook" both by the Cornells. BA has the "Ocean Passages for the World" which is very good particularly if you can find an early edition. However, like all things BA is is expensive. NIMA puts out a series of "Sailing Directions (Enroute)" for various parts of the globe. Most cruising guides, including Cornell's, crib shamelessly from the BA and the "Sailing Directions". There are lots and lots of guides to specific parts of the world and most of them are more fun to read than the government pubs. For actual destinations the "Lonely Planet" guides and various similar products are indispensable. -- Tom. |

....
What edition/year of Ocean Passages am I looking for? Well, I'm not totally sure about the edition history but I think that you want the 2nd edition or earlier (ca. 1970 something) as they went to a smaller format after that. The newer versions are treasure as well but there is less to them. You might try http://www.amazon.co.uk or other UK or Commonwealth sources as they are more likely to have it and will also likely have better prices. Good luck. -- Tom. |
