and Rockport, Aransas pass, Mansfield.

You know when coming in from offshore you have the right port because
the jetties look just like a wine bottle on radar ;0). Once I had a
deckhead get all his fingers chopped off...sucked into a turbo. Had to
run him into Port O'Conner for a waiting Medical helo.

He started going into shock about the time I hit the jetties. Lucky we
had a high tide because I ran the flats directly from the jetties to
the Port O'Conner ICW breakwaters. I only had 4 ft of water under a
140 ft boat that drew 7.5 ft sitting still. At night.

Now that takes good local knowledge ;-) The
lowest reading I see on the chart anywhere along
that path is 7', but there are a couple of 8'
places too. Would've been pretty easy to get stuck.

There were a couple 55-60 ft boats working Port O'Cconner that would
cut the corner all the time. I knew it could be done, just glad we did
not fall off plane. Until that day it was never worth the risk to
shave off 15-20 min running time.

Last harvest moon regetta we sailed we stopped in Port O'Conner and
meet a fishing guide coming in from the west with a boat load of Red's
and Specks he caught just your side of rattlesnake island. Also meet
an interesting local there called the Joker. I noted in my logs this
quote from the Joker "My neighbors cat was 17 when I shot it" ...

Molesworth, my Krogen is 21 yrs. old.

I'm about to head S toward Port O'Connor and on to Port Aransas and
Corpus. We were supposed to leave yesterday but the compressor is
going out on my cold plate reefer. Should be fixed this afternoon if
he can get a new one. If not... departing next week. Plan on stopping
at Port O'Connor and taking in some of that good seafood, and maybe a
trip up to Serendipity resort in Palacios. Look for a Krogen 42
"Anastasia III" between next week and the end of the month. We'll be
in Corpus on the 21st. for sure, since I have one crew member that has
to catch a plane out of there that day.

BTW, I think I've set the SOG record for a Krogen at the entrance to
Port O'Conner. Leaving on an outgoing tide, we were up to about 14
knots on a 7 knot boat. I'd sure hate to be trying to come IN with
that kind of outflow!

Hi Keith,

Are you coming down the intercoastal, or going
outside? If you come up to Serendipity, you'll
probably be tied up within a slip or two of us
since we are out on the end by the large transient
slips. Come by and say hi. We will for sure be
there this weekend if you make it down by then.

We'll keep an eye out for Anastasia. She is the
same age as our Irwin 38.

If it turns out you are shorthanded for the trip,
let me know and I might be able to make part of it
with you.

Hmmm, this is weird!

Maybe it's because I'm in Louisiana? (Wrong Zip?)

I have tried at least 6 different insurers, with a variation of 'over 10
yrs'. 'over 30/35', 'we have ceased offering cover (no market) in the
Gulf.' to decline coverage.

Oh, well,

As we are off to the Carib in November, I guess we'll be 'self-insured'!

broker, and look at all kinds of companies. My current policy is with
Markel through IMIS.
