Default Boat-yard .. friendly or Unfriendly ??

Where are you located?

It has occured to me over the last 4 days that the boatyard my boat is
stored at is UNFRIENDLY.

I haven't seen a smile in days. Bunch of grumpy old jerks.

The lineup: one English guy with a huge Cheoy Lee. I've nicknamed him
"The English Patient".

I yell over "good morning, beautiful day" ... nothing. He doesn't even
acknowledge I've spoken.

Then there are the "old men of the sea". They are all retired, have
nothing to do but goof on their boats.

You'd think they would be friendly .......... nope. Bunch of geezers with
bad attitudes.

Yesterday I needed someone to hold a screwdriver while I turned a bolt
from below. A 3 minute job.
Well, it took me almost 2 hours to find a friendly boater. And she was
just stopping by to see her boat before
leaving for a trip.

I thought boating was suppose to be fun. Happy. Spending time working on
the old yacht.

==

Today I am retaliating. If they think going around with big sour pusses
is ok, then they are going to indure some
very loud, fun, happy music. I have loaded up with Jimmy Buffet, Bob
Marley, Beach Boys, .. etc. The boombox is
packed and ready.

When "The English Patient" calls over "could you turn that ..." ..
"What"? "What"? .... "Are you talking to me" ?

"turn it up, you like it"?

That sonofabitch is going back to Limey land if I have my way. He will be
spitting up fish and chips. His crumpet will be turning into bad gas.
"Top of the day" I will yell over "Ba Ba BA ... Ba BA Barbara Ann ... "

"One love ,," ..

"stepped on a pop top.. "

Revenge ...

The name of the boatyard is;

"The Grumpy Old Men and their Boats .. Boatyard".

=========================================

It is somewhere near Maine, but not as far south as New Jersey.

=============================================

Oh, and while I'm on it ..

when you are working on "your good old boat" if that is what you have .. and
cars and trucks enter the boatyard ..

Do ya ever try to guess what boat they will stop at before they get to it?

Yesterday .. I see this old work truck, yup.. old boat with lots of
character.
Fancy sports car ... guy gets out with the boof hair, the clothes, .. he
goes for the fancy racing machine sailboat.

Motor boaters? They drive big cars, and trucks.
Sailboaters? Mostly modest vehicles. Older the driver, more tendency to
have a Volvo.

=====

And another thing ..

does it drive you nuts when the boater near you brags about how he got a
deal on his mooring, stepped over every guy on the waiting
list ..

He will go on and tell you that he knows this one or that one .. etc.

Meanwhile I am about ready to show him my pipewrench.

========

Oh well ...

Got to go ..

The war isn't over until the "English Patient" sings.

hahahahhahahahah ... I hate that guy.

You wouldn't have had this problem in Charleston in the first place. You
start sanding the handrails, be sure to have more than one sander, "just
laying around"...(c;

If you light off that radio near J-dock, it would be interpreted as you
are having a party and everyone that can hear it has automatically been
invited to come help clean out your booze locker. Try to have the table
leaves in the cabin up and ready because everyone will also bring enough
food to feed 70% more people than there are on the dock, "just in case
someone else shows up"...like the divers, for instance.

The party will, obviously, attract more boaters from other docks who see
all that food and wine being carried down the dock. YOU started it, so
we expect YOU to furnish plenty of mixers, ice, PLASTIC CUPS, but, when
not if we run out, someone will make a run to get more, especially ice,
so it's a good idea to warn the marina store what you're doing so they
don't close early, which may cause the locks on the ice machines to
break, mysteriously.

Try not to look too astonished, as some of our new visitors have, when
the assemblage starts cleaning your boat after the party, washing all the
dirty dishes and cleaning your galley, fresh water washdown to get the
spilled red wine out of the cockpit, etc.....

Now part of the party dock crowd, you'll be listening out for loud music
from OTHER boats across the marina, signalling you to grab the chips and
dip, any party platters that haven't spoiled from the fridge and a couple
of bottle of Two Buck Chuck, from Seattle now one of our favorite party
wines, and head down towards the music....THERE'S A PARTY STARTING!

Boating IS lots of fun....You're just in the WRONG PORT....(c;

"Come on with us! We're going over to Carroll's Seafood in Mike's truck
for a hundred pounds of fresh oysters! Hear that music?!"
(Oyster or Blue Crab cooking equipment can appear out of thin air with
massive propane tanks any time loud Carolina Beach Music is heard.
Science has never figured out why.)

Yo Larry ,, I went over to say hello to one of the retiree's today. He was
sleeping in a chair near his boat.

Not all the boaters are unfriendly .. some are very nice.

It just seems that earlier this week the sour pusses were everywhere.

Yeah, most are when they're asleep.
Good on you for not waking him up.
