Jeff has a website with lots of pictures of his boat. He's in many of the pictures, including ones taken at the factory during the boat's construction. Most people here know that I've had my current boat for 8 years now, and have sailed most of the East Coast from Canada to Key West. We had our previous boat for 8 years, and the boat before that about 6. Actually, I've been a boat owner almost my entire life, having built my first at age 14. * NE Sailboat wrote, On 2/26/2007 12:55 PM: Jeff, you stupid F..k. Jeff the loser .. let's let Jeff the loser steer the boat. What a joke. Why don't you go lurk at the RV newsgroup. Oh, can't afford one of them either. Is there a "once a summer, we take the loser on the boat" newsgroup? |

That answers one of the questions I had--whether BoatUS was in the insurance business. Apparently they're not. They're simply selling Cigna access to their members. That's not an entirely accurate characterization, Dave. Cigna underwrites the insurance, but BoatUS administers it. It's actually more than that. Cigna is the insurance underwriter (iow, they assume the risk), but that's ALL Cigna does. You can't buy the same policy from any other Cigna agent...the policies that BOAT/US sells are "designed" specifically for BOAT/US, who does all the work. -- Peggie ---------- Peggie Hall Specializing in marine sanitation since 1987 Author "Get Rid of Boat Odors - A Guide To Marine Sanitation Systems and Other Sources of Aggravation and Odor" http://shop.sailboatowners.com/books...ku=90&cat=1304 |

For the life of me, why am I a member of this dreadful organization. They don't seem to do anything for boating. What are your opinions of Boat US? I switched to BOAT/U.S. from Allstate when I asked my rep, herself a sailor, whether Allstate would cover any subsequent damage if a through hull broke because of faulty maintenance. She had to call her underwriter to get the answer: "No." AFAIK, no insurance company would cover lack of maintenance, but a marine policy will cover the resulting damage. Since, I've found that BOAT/U.S. settles claims fairly and equitably far faster and with less hassle than most others. They have survey teams mobilizing *before* hurricanes hit. Within days of the recent big ones, they were in there and saving further damage. Others mentioned the "Agreed upon value" vs "fair" market value difference, which is huge. Marine insurance understands "salvage". Their lawyers eat property and casualty lawyers for a light snack in admiralty court. The marine policies include EPA clean-up coverage, and allow boats to stay in the water more than 6 months a year. Just got a note that we're covered if the marina's rental agreement requires us to agree to some provision that voids most other policies (forget the specifics). Vast difference between the two types of insurance. As another said: you get what you pay for, and BOAT/U.S. is the best blend, in my opinion. -- Jere Lull Xan-a-Deux ('73 Tanzer 28 #4 out of Tolchester, MD) Xan's NEW Pages: http://web.mac.com/jerelull/iWeb/Xan/ Our BVI FAQs (290+ pics) http://homepage.mac.com/jerelull/BVI/ |

What are your opinions of Boat US? Think of them as an aquatic version of AAA. Their magazine is similar, the towing service is equivalent to AAA road service, and the "deals" are also similar. I would not be on the road without AAA, and I don't think I want to think about the cost of towing when/if I break down and need assistance or the cost of a diver if I get tangled up. There are no soft uncontrolled landings in Maine or NH, so back-up is essential where we sail. If you expect more from BoatU.S. than from AAA, you will be disappointed, but what do you really expect for $19 per year? Fair winds, Steve |
