Default Cuba in January?

Greetings:

I am exploring the idea of traveling to Cuba by boat (someone else's) in
January. I have a legit educational research grant and can travel there
freely (I'm setting up a study abroad program for Criminal Justice
students at University of Delaware). Being a boater with lots of
experience around the Lower Keys (particularly Key West), I'd REALLY
prefer my first experience in Cuba to be via water than flying from
(yuck!) New York. I'd appreciate a contact from anyone planning to spend
January in Hemmingway Harbor that might be interested in having a mate
aboard.

In brief:

- I can supply references as to boating experience (I hold a 50 ton USCG
Master's license -inland -. http://www.elkrivertours.com) and personal
integrity (e.g., I'm far too old and tired to be involved in risky
behavior of any kind beyond the "occasional" scotch and water).

- I don't know a sail from a Kleenex, but am good at doing what I'm
told.

- Five submarine patrols in the 1960's taught me how to get along with
others aboard (e.g., keep to myself and shut up)

- I can pay my own way, but want to conserve limited grant money for
future short trips when I may have to waste it on plane fare.

- I am properly checked out on using mops, swaps, rags, and other high
tech cleaning equipment and don't mind doing it. I can cook about two
notches above grilled cheese sandwiches and tuna fish salad.

- I am a reasonably competent mechanic/handyman.

Should anyone be aware of someone planning to cruise to Cuba that might
be interested in having a paunchy professor aboard during all or part of
January, I'd appreciate a reply.

Regards,

David
