Shaft Alternator FIxed!
After Cap'n Geoffrey took Lionheart's shaft alternator to a better electric
shop than before, the new guy found the slip rings had separated from their mounting and that was the reason it stopped putting amps out after it warmed up. He repaired the rings as the company that made it is no longer in business. I reinstalled it, Sunday. We pulled the belts off the engine alternators (2) and slowly turned the shaft, with the diesel, tied to the dock to simulate its rotation under sail. Bingo! 20 amps with the lights and electronic toys running! You can hear it load the diesel, so we may not get that many amps with only the prop powering it from the water rushing by at 6 knots...(c; The shaft alternator works like it never has before to help extend the load under sail.
