Rust on Stainless Steel
That sounds like WitchNox. It is a bit expensive but it goes a long way.
Doug s/v Callista "Steve" wrote in message ... I use a weak solution of nitric acid to passivate stainless. (I don't remember, off hand what the mix is. I just keep about 5 gals mixed in a plastic drum and hang the part in it for a few hours.) A welder friend has a jelly solution that has nitric acid in it. He brushes it on a finished stainless weld and lets it set for a couple hours then rinse it off. Really cleans the weld effected area and never seems to rust afterwards. Very expensive (about 15 bucks for a half pint jar.) -- My opinion and experience. FWIW Steve s/v Good Intentions |

Citric acid 910%) works as well as nitric and is much safer - see -

"On and Off" is what I use. Put it on with a cheap brush and hose it off. You
can buy muriatic acid a lot cheaper - works almost as well... John |
Rust on Stainless Steel
ss does not like hcl acid destorys passivation - use ospho or mild rubing
compound - "on-Off will cause future buildup faster - always use high grade wax to protect and clean often - remember it is stainless not no stain steel "Truelove39" wrote in message ... Rust on Stainless Steel
Funny, but my passivated SS (chainplates) don't rust...only handrails, etc.
