I noticed recently a slight trickle of sea water from the direction of
the siphon break in the raw water line. Today I was able to disconnect the mount from under the sink and pull intact the siphon break and both hoses out where I could see what's happening. When the engine is running there is a continuous flow (more than a drip but not much more) of water coming out the actual siphon break itself. I would think the only way this would happen is if there were a blockage of some type "downstream" of the break. FYI, there's plenty of water coming out the exhaust and the engine runs relatively cool. I disconnected both hoses and did not see any scale or build-up, and the siphon break fitting itself is clear. Any thoughts on why this is happening? It has not always been this way, as the drip falls onto the engine and evaporates, leaving a clearly visible salt residue that's a recent happening. I spent a bit more time looking at the problem today and found I could
easily blow air through the hose ("downstream" from the siphon break). If there's a blockage, it must be slight. Next I'll try pouring some anti-scale formula into the hose. I would appreciate any thoughts on what might be causing this. Dave J/40 #63 |

Dave,
The problem's not likely the hose, but the little valve that's at the top of the siphon break. If you can, dismantle the siphon break and carefully inspect the "duck bill" valve, there's probably some scale or buildup reventing a full seal. The siphon break acts like a one way vale that is supposed to only allow air to flow into the loop. Pierre. "Dave" wrote in message om...
