,, he did care about the ocean and what lives there.

His passing is a shame.

It appears to be a freak accident. I've spent a lot of time among sting
rays of different types. But the I'd have to see the footage to know
exactly how it happened and that it was not a situation where they could
feel threatened. I've always been around rays where there was plenty
of space in all directions. Maybe that was not the case there? Or maybe
it was just a freak accident.

I fed them by hand in Tahiti... I believe he was swimming over them and
fairly close... must have disturbed it somehow.

Let's face it -- Steve Irwin was not known for giving animals "plenty of
space." He'll be missed, even by me. I just can't help feeling that this was
a long time in coming. "Those who live by the stingray shall die by the
stingray."

Have to agree: The expression in this family has been, for a long time
now; "What animal is he annoying this week?". And we'd change channels.

Consequently his 'showmanship' interfered with his obviuos interest in
animals and appeared over dramatized/corny!

His show, here, fell out of favour as a result. However there was IIRC
one, where they moved a croc/alligator from very poor into better
quality accomodation, that seemed to have some point to it.

BTW: We'd never seen that incident of him tempting a
crocodile/alligator with food with his infant child in his other arm,
until a recent news-flash. Isn't that a similar 'escapade' to a
'dangling' incident; for which another well publicised 'personality'
was criticised?

How stupid! One wouldn't applaud someone taking an infant on a drag
strip or sky diving?

Sorry to say this; but maybe it was just a matter of time?

Terry,,, you are both right and wrong. The incident with his kid; really
stupid. He should have been arrested for child endangerment.

On the other hand; he cared about the earth, the environment, animals who
inhabit the earth.


Yes, he was a showman. Yes, he was reckless. And YES; I am not surprised
that he got stung and died.

On the other hand; I few years ago I was dragged to Disney World in
Orlando. After suffering through the amusement park rides, my sif/other at
the time decides it is time for dinner .. She drags me to the Rainforest
Restaurant or Cafe or Whatever. It was the most awful experience of my
life. Plastic rainforest, plastic animals that move, the whole thing was
fake.

I finally couldn't take it any longer. I said "don't you know that Florida
has beautiful swamps, rivers, bays, springs, ocean, etc that are teaming
with wildlife"., "why don't we go out into the country and see the real
thing"..

Oh nooooo ,,, the Rainforest Restaurant was what the tourists wanted. Air
conditioned comfort, animals made of plastic, the whole thing planned, fake.

And this is why in a way I liked the Crocodile guy. He showed us that the
animals are real. They bite, they stink, they ****, they sting.

South Park got it right when he was featured in one of their episodes.
He's got a bic croc or something and he says in his best Aussie accent
"Now, le' me jamb my thum' up 'is butt, tha' ough' to **** 'im off!"
