Terry K wrote: Rent it out to tourists until you can sail it back. Are boats cheaper in Hawaii? The insurance that would be needed to do so would probably be astranomical. Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable with "tourists" using the boat without meeting them and knowing their sailing experience. Depends on the boat. Boats really aren't that cheap out there. Daysailers can usually be found fairly cheap. Sometimes you can catch a deal of a lifetime on a cruiser. You definately just have to keep your eye open. |

Start with the National Assocation of Chaterboat Operators (NACO). For $35 bucks you can be a member and then have acess to several NACO Member Insuarce brokers who cater specifically to charter operators. There is also another charterboat association. But since you obviously already know the cost of chaterboat insurance policys I wont waste any more of your time. Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable with "tourists" using the boat without meeting them and knowing their sailing experience. Why, have a small controll issue? Hey, if you're gonna get another boat and sell the Rawson turn it into a business. IRS Sole Prop Sched. C. Maybe if you are lucky a customer, or as you call them ; tourist, will burn it or sink it for you........... ie. $$$$$$ for you. Besides, somebody off the street coldn't do any worse than your husband's attmpt at sailing it to CA. Tired of Being Tactfull Bob |

In reply to what Bob wrote. I never said I knew what insurance would be for a charter company. I said "would probably", which means I don't know exactly. Majority of charter services in Hawaii are only those with captains aboard. There is a reason for that. Hawaiian waters are not the easiest waters to be on. At least my husband attempted sailing to CA from HI. A lot of people can't even say that much. I would really appreciate it if you no longer made comments of our lack to get our boat to CA. Majority of people who sail to HI from CA either sell their boat or ship it back. It is not an easy sail back. Especially during the winter months. |

Majority of ...There is a reason for that.... not the easiest waters to be on.... At least my husband attempted... A lot of people can't....Majority of people who sail .... Way too many qualifiers in your language for my liking. It's an unethical strategy used by people to sound important, knowledgeable, and authoritative when actually the speaker is lacking credibility. This strategy is used primarily by "know-it-alls" and other pompous asses. I would really appreciate it if you no longer made comments of our lack to get our boat to CA. Sorry honey, I aint your husband. Go bark up some other tree. Woof--Woof. It is not an easy sail back. Especially during the winter months. This statement alone will sever as my example. Here you make a claim as if you have some personal knowledge of HI-CA voyages, and by your own words “... especially in winter months.… If you dohave that type of experience seems to me you would just thumb through your World Cruising Routes: 5th Edition by Jimmy Cornell and check out the Ocean Prediction Center weather fax for the area, that is, since you have lead these readers to think that you have personal knowledge of winter passages from HI to CA. I just took a look at the OPC latest and looks pretty good. Three big STNRY 1022 Mb H sitting below the 30N line. Looks like 10-25 K 270 degrees seas 2-3 M along the 35N line. Hey, down wind sailing most the way Tell your husband to go for it,,,,, that is if he isn't to bussy at the store buying your tampons and fretting over the laundry he has to fold for you. Since you do not want me to respond to your post. I have a polite request for you: I would really appreciate it if you no longer make comments about my opinion. Bad Mood Bob |

I appologize Don. I agree. The reason why I read these and post questions is because of the wealty of solid information I find here. Thank God boat.cruising is not like sailing.asa and I hope it will stay as peacefull and informative as usual. But sometimes I just get fed up with some of this crap and fall from grace. Yes, I agree not a very nice thing to say................ but hey, she took the bait and jumped into the flotsom with boat feet. Bob |

Seems to be a fairly common form of recreation on the net. But this does sound like a sincere appology. And that is not that common at all.
