Engine start

Hi,

I have a 1987 Bayliner Capri with an OMC 3 L 130 HP I/O. I was trying
to get it going for the first time this spring. When I turned the
ignition, it cranked for a while, but never started. As I contined to
crank it, I heard something that sounded like a backfire, and now when
I turn the key I get nothing.

Any ideas?
