Is the subject the gerund or the noun? Hi Dave: I am pained (most of us) It pains me (Passive voice. Preferred voice used in scientific publications). Pained, I am (Yoda) A heck............. diagramming sentences was a big waste of time. As well as that fonex or was it phonic or phonix or..... Ah, heck lets see: C + at = cat B + at = bat R + at = rat Then of course the pattern continues...... Wh + at = ? Oh, dont that spell "Whut?" Oh, by the way In the sentence from the above post, "...to answer if you successfully completed grade school...." I think it should be "completed successfully" not "successfully competed." A generation was corrupted by Star Trek. You know the phrase, To Boldly Go. Should have read Go Boldly. Interesting thing this language we use. It just keeps on changing. OH, and don't even think about trying those folks who live in Morgan City, Sulfur, Venice, Fuchon. "Come see. Come see," said the coon ass. So lets be tolerant regarding other's word choice, voice, and conventions. Bob |
