Winchless jib halyard picture
 
I got the parts for my winchless jib halyard and it only took a few
minutes to make up a less kludgey arrangement than I described
previously. Cheaper and cleaner than a winch and I expect that luff
tension control will be more precise as well.

I'm not a marine engineer, but I think the 90 degree PVC fittingss might
cause a lot of friction on the halyard.

I had to order special "rope service" valves to retrofit to the pump.
They should easily overcome any friction:)
