In Florida, you must have a state registration but no numbers on the
bow. The registration sticker goes on the port window.

Florida: State decal only, one, port side of vessel.

Illinois: State decals only

A vessel that is covered by a valid marine document must display
current expiration decals, but is exempt from the requirement to
display an Illinois registration number.

Note: For Federally documented vessels, the Illinois registration
decals are to be displayed on either side of the Federally documented
name of the vessel.

In Wisconsin you have to pay the tax and display the two decals on the
transom, one on each side. You don't have to display any numbers.

And if you have three boats (dinghies included) you get a fleet rate on
your annual registration!

but no
state can require a registration number that must be displayed as they do
with a
boat that is not federally documented. They may require a decal showing
that
you have paid the state taxes and fees.



So, what you're saying is that you don't know anything about IL and FL.

did not require knowledge of any state in particular, since FEDERAL law
says
that NO state can require you to display state registration numbers on a
federally documented vessel. It doesn't matter which state. Get it?
