Between the South Pacific and New Zealand

Umm is the South pacific to the east or west of NZ? Er um..
or is it north or south of it?

According to Wikipedia, New Zealand is in the south-western
Pacific Ocean. Does this imply that the South Pacific is to
the east of NZ ?

Oh well it must be in the South Western Pacific Ocean then. Didn't know we
had one of those.
I am now wondering who put the line through the map and when. I know it
wasn't James Cook.

(sniff sniff.. is that sarcasm I can smell?)

Actually I have no idea where the line between the South Pacific
and South-Western Pacific is.

Does this line run north-south or northwest-southeast ?

According to the CIA, the pacific ocean is centered at 0 Lat 180 Lon

Thus anything south of 0 Latitude and west of 180 Longitude would be the
southwest Pacific Ocean.
