Default Cooling a 1987 OMC 3L 130 HP

I just bought a boat with a 1987 OMC 3L 130 HP stern drive. While
winterizing it, I noticed water was not coming out of the prop. The
impeller was shot, so I replaced it, but still no water exiting. I ran

it for a few seconds with the impeller removed and saw that the hose
was not delivering water into the impeller.

At this point I am stuck.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I am embarassed to ask this, but I just moved
from sailing to powerboats, so my knowledge of engines is nil. You say
to check the water pump bolted to the block. I am assuming that is
different from the impeller unit, which seems also to be referred to as
the water pump. Also, how do I test it?

Thanks. Rich Costa

First choice in Christmas gifts at your house ought to be a manual.
Perhaps a look at eBay would be a good start.
On the 2.5L mercruiser I recently got rid of, there was a water pump
in the position you'd expect to find it on a car engine - namely above
the crankshaft pulley with an obvious hose or two. There was
impeller too on the lower outer unit.

Not sure how to advise you:- if I ran a water hose into the lower
unit, it would throw a rainbow of water out of the prop when running.
Winterizing is usually a mater of running a gallon or two of anti
freeze through it, and opening as many drains as are fitted.

Thanks again. I actually have already ordered a manual and am waiting
for it to be delivered. I am trying to get as much done now though as
winter is closing in fast and the days above freezing are dwindling.
Again, thanks for your time.
