Default Crab / Lobster fishing in Southern California?

I was wondering if it is worth trying to fish for crabs
and lobster from a sailboat in Southern California.
According to the fishing regulations, traps are legal
for crabs and hoop nets for lobsters.

- Is there anything else legal to catch lobster?

- Which crab species can be caught around here, and
which of these are good to eat?

- How is the chance of ever catching a lobster with
a hoop net? Has anyone experience doing this?

- Are there shrimp / prawns etc. worth going after?
What are the traps and regulations for these?

Thanks for any advice,

Chris

Does the Df&G recommend that you eat what you catch? I would think that
bottom crawlers would be more contaminated than fish, and they have
recommendations about how much you eat, or don't eat

It depends were you fish for them there are still a lot area’s that are still good for crab and lobster. Fish and game Dept. has the information you need. Richard G

What is the prevailing current there; from north?
Would it be a good Idea to go north, i.e. along the Malibu Coast?
Any other good crabs/shrimp etc. out there?

Thanks a lot,

Chris
