Your message is an attempt to generate commercial traffic for your website.
This violates the charter of this newsgroup, just as Larry correctly reported.

If everyone did this, the newsgroup would become a mess of commercial posts, and
as such not interesting for its primary purpose which is _individuals_ discussing
boats and cruising. Most of the individuals would stop monitoring the group.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't realize that your post would
generate this reaction, here is a suggestion:

Come participate in our newsgroup (after all it belongs to everyone). I'm sure that
if you are in the yachting business you have good experiences that may be useful to
everyone. You may be able to offer suggestions, or answer questions and generally be
a helpful contributor to the newsgroup. You can always leave your websites and slogan
in your signature, and people will generally not find that objectionable as long as
your post is not just for commercial purposes.

What most people find objectionable is just posting a commercial message, and not
otherwise participating in the newsgroup.

Cheers,

Don W.

The newsgroup charter means little. SBC's AUP and Google's AUP means a
lot. All AUPs tell them in no uncertain terms that this ISN'T their
freebie advertising medium to sell their products. He didn't do it once,
he changed headings and did it AGAIN....

It must stop or the whole of rec.boats groups will soon be ruined like so
many others.

The newsgroup charter means little.

Hate to tell you self appointed newsgroup police but the charter for
rec.boats.cruising says absolutely nothing that prohibits announcements of
services or websites.
http://mailgate.supereva.com/rec/rec.../msg63881.html It only
prohibits for-sale posts.

It is unfortunate that he posed it more than once but this post was
entirely within the permitted use.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I disagree.

Sorry that you took my comments supporting Larry as being netcopish. I reviewed
the charter before my first post on this subject, and I've been generally familiar
with it for some time.

Now show me how posting a blurb ad for a brokerage/charter company is a "discussion",
or seriously intended to generate a "discussion" of "topics related to cruising
in boats"

If he were to participate in the newsgroup and just listed the website and slogan
in his sig, I doubt anyone would have objected.

Don W.
