New or used/sail or motor/big or small

On the other hand, I like the idea of going somewhere and not having to buy expensive fuel. I've never held down a decent job for any length of time so I don't have a bunch of money to spend. I guess used is better'n new? I'd like to take cruises with my boyfriend and we both have dogs.
