Looking at getting a new vhf handheld, the old one is, well, old, and

price is right for a waterproof/submersible, and SH makes mostly decent
kit, in a chevy not a caddy sort of way.

I'd explain it all to you, but your brain would explode.

I had one. It had very short battery life. Then I got an Icom M1V and
it lasts forever between charges and is quite a bit smaller. I will
never get a NiCad powered HT again.

Wow. While I am aware of the shortcomings of NiCad, this unit performs
very well in my opinion. But then I charge it on a schedule whether
I've been using it or not. In four years, I think I let it run down to
"battery low" exactly once, during a regatta.

Sorry to hear of this.

We got the Atlantis 250 last year for $90. Came with NiMH pack, holder
for AA backup, 6vdc & 120vac chargers. Nice unit. Replaced our M1
(Nicad) for less than the M1's battery pack.
