Best homeschooling course for cruisers???
I'm looking for opinions on the best homeschooling for grades k thru
8. Anyone have any experince with different companies? Thanks. Mark E. Williams |
We're unschooling our kids. For info about this option, check books by
John Holt, unschooling.com, etc. If you really want a packaged curriculum there are a couple of homeschooling groups in the misc.*hierarchy, one is generic (misc.education.home-school. misc) and the other is Christian (misc.education.home-school.Christian). You'll get lots of feedback on the Christian one. |

However, the U of Nebraska might make the parents teach "evolution" *gasp* and "human sexuality" *double gasp* and prolly doesn't include in its curriculum "how to beat them ******s" and "homos are the devil." Though, being that it's the U of Nebraska, I take that back! |
A message typical of the insularity of residents of the left and right
coasts. Yeah, but can you really blame us for insulating ourselves? Let's face it, middle-America makes the Taliban look progressive. |

We are looking into Oak Meadow, an accredited course from Vermont that
is NOT faith-based. We are planning to pull ours for a year and do the Great Loop. Capt. Jeff |

Wasn't that "Dobie" Gillis?
Like, endsville for me, daddy-o, Frank P.S. Calvert is religious. P.P.S. I'd *strongly* encourage you to look into unschooling, especially at his age! |

Williams We looked at the Calvert correspondence programs and took the course outlines to the principal at our kids school. He looked them over and said, "Yup, looks like grades 2+3 and 4+5 to me". He gave us the books for grade 2+3 and 4+5 for our 2 kids. He said "We don't need the text books back. Have the kids do every question and keep their workbooks. When you come back, show me the workbooks and they will be promoted." That was about as simple as it could possibly get ... and it was free. Your mileage may vary depending on your school. Good luck! |
Has anyone looked into the courses developed by the Australian Government
for distance learning? John "Frank" wrote in message oups.com... Wasn't that "Dobie" Gillis? Like, endsville for me, daddy-o, Frank P.S. Calvert is religious. P.P.S. I'd *strongly* encourage you to look into unschooling, especially at his age! |

Tamaroak (Capt. Jeff) recommended Oak Meadow. You could do worse, a lot
worse. They're from the Montessori/Steiner-Waldorf end of the educational philosophy spectrum which I find a lot more attractive than most others. I'm certain your kid(s) will, too. Frank (former teacher, current unschooler, and not fond of *any* curriculum; but if ya gotta have one...) |

My wife is a new-age wholeistic type of person and she's decided on Oak Meadow. I'm sure my grandson will like it. Thanks again Mark E. Willliams |
