Fuel tank cleanout ports.
Hi Folks!
I have successfully removed the cleanout ports (3) from my port fuel tank. Quite a mess in there! When I put them back in, does anyone have any advice on what sealant to use? They are submerged in fuel most of the time. Thanks! Doug |
One of the Permatex products. Can't remember which one, but I have used
to reassemble carburetor without a gasket. The labels are clear, though. Jonathan Doug Dotson wrote: Hi Folks! I have successfully removed the cleanout ports (3) from my port fuel tank. I'll second this recommendation. It stays somewhat flexible, and even
gasoline can't clean it off your fingers, so you know it's right for the job. "Jonathan W" wrote in message news:4 ... One of the Permatex products. Permatex #2, stays flexible. A gasket would be even better.

My tanks are fiberglass. The mating surfaces are not all that smooth.
I doubt if a gasket would work well. Doug s/v Callista "Keith" wrote in message ... Permatex #2, stays flexible. A gasket would be even better. -- Keith __ Maybe it's true that life begins at fifty. Subject: Fuel tank cleanout ports.
From: Bruce in Alaska In article , "Keith" wrote: Permatex #2, stays flexible. A gasket would be even better. or both, gasket smothered in Permatex #2...... Bingo!!! Except I wouldn't "smother" it in Permatex. I'd just neatly cover both sides with it. :-) Capt. Bill |

What is the point of a gasket if the mating surfaces are not very smooth?

Previous sealing has been in place for 22 years (as far as I can
tell) with no gasket. "LaBomba182" wrote in message ... Subject: Fuel tank cleanout ports. From: "Doug Dotson" My tanks are fiberglass. The mating surfaces are not all that smooth. I doubt if a gasket would work well. Think thick. Capt. Bill |
