Where are you? In the San Francisco Bay Area, there's a great school in Pt.
Richmond called Tradewinds that gives ASA Bareboat certifications. I presume that you want it so that you can charter. The Tradewinds sponsers trips as well -- we just got back from a terrific 12-day, one-way charter from Corfu to Athens with Tradewinds. http://www.tradewindssailing.com/ Cheers, Mike Water Wing Beneteau 40CC "mulroys" wrote in message ... Bob If you are talking Canada, try Bosun's (http://www.bosuns.ca) for ISPA and CYA certification. If you can sail the West Coast of Canada, you can sail anywhere. Jack |

There are four ASA schools in Marina Del Rey (west side of Los Angeles):
Seamist-Skippers, Bluewater Sailing, California Sailing Academy and Marina Sailing. I can vouch for the first two schools. Both are very good and have a wonderful fleet of charter boats too. They are easy to find on the web (they are also listed on the ASA website). Marina Sailing requires a membership, and their charter fees are higher than Seamist-Skippers and Bluewater Sailing. However, they have charter sites in San Diego, Newport Beach, Long Beach, Redondo Beach, Marina Del Rey, and Channel Islands (Oxnard). In addition, they have reciprocals with Santa Barbara Sailing Center. That almost makes it worthwhile, especially since the northern Channel Islands are a sailing paradise. Santa Barbara Sailing Center is a nice place if you're in that area. My wife and I go up there and rent boats for daysails from them every month or so. They have an ASA school too. There aren't many US Sailing schools around as far as I'm aware. Club Nautique used to have an office in Marina Del Rey but they are gone now. In San Diego there's J-World. Subject: Bareboat schools on the west coast?

Thank you in advance. Bob One of the best is OCSC San Francisco Bay. A little pricey but worth it and if you do it during the summer you will be learning in some challenging conditions. I forgot to mention that Orange Coast College School of Sailing & Seamanship
is supposed to be great. It's too far from my home. It's a US Sailing school: http://www.occsailing.com/ |
