I am a former Island Packet owner and I also chartered a Caliber 33 for a
week in Maine. The IP of similar vintage (the Caliber was about 15 years old) is a much better built boat and sails better. The Caliber 33 was poorly balanced with a rather vicious weather helm. The current Caliber 35 and 40 (I haven't seen a 47) is a dated design with a narrow beam aft that makes the quarter berth rather small. The IP OTOH carries its beam all the way to the transom and therefore has much more room below and in the cockpit. PHRF ratings give the advantage to the Caliber, but both are slow. David "George" wrote in message om... This month's Blue Water Sailing has a favorable article concerning the Caliber 47 LRC. I have not heard much of the Caliber, and I would like to hear opinions as to how it compares to other boats, specifically the Island Packet. Thanks |
