Metal Things #2 - the Cigar goes to....
Captain Neal!! They are indeed to keep the bolts on a small outboard from cutting into the transom. The Original Owner put his thinking cap on and remembered that they belonged to an old, old outboard of his. He's just come home from a knee replacement so he has other things on his mind at present and that's why it took him a few days to collect his thoughts. He's in his 70's now and has owned boats since he purchased his first from selling golf balls out of a lake at the age of 10 (and the second from successfully eluding the water police on the Chesapeake) As someone pointed out, they were probably years stamped on them. From an era when people made stuff that they were proud of. I'll put them on the board that my OB sits on on the stern rail. |
