75Pound CQR-type galvanized anchor for sale

We're upgrading our anchor system, and thus, this rarely-used 5-year-old
anchor is available.

It's for sale mostly because of our not having anywhere to store it aboard.
It's otherwise a very heavy representative of the classic CQR type of
articulated anchor. The proven shank hinge design allows the anchor to stay
set during wind or tide changes and - if we had a place to store it aboard!-
this anchor would be useful during a storm. We don't, so it's for sale.

This anchor, our secondary, was very rarely used, as can be seen in the
condition of the pointy end of it where it would have to dig in, and of the
edges of the flukes, likewise, each time it was used. Our same-age Delta
55# anchor, by comparison, is rusty nearly entirely, and will become our
secondary anchor. Since we have no place to store it, and this was our
secondary anchor, it's for sale.

That said, it's full disclosures time:

This anchor was very rarely deployed. I believe the last time we used this
anchor was three years ago. Since we're full time cruisers (other than our
extended refit which is currently happening in Riverside Marina in Ft.
Pierce FL), it was constantly exposed to salt spray and wash while in the
same position on our anchor rollers on the many thousands of miles of open
sea we traversed during that time, in some cases in very heavy weather.

Because we so rarely used it, the joint between the arm and the anchor
became corroded and locked into position. I have no doubt that regular use
would have avoided that problem. A while of un-seizing spray, along with
some leverage, has it free again. Putting it in the water, setting it and
giving a good pull on the chain might ALSO have freed it, but I wanted you
to know about the history of this anchor. The un-seizing spray left some
dark residue at the joint area as seen in the pictures. That's not rust.
However...

There are also some small areas of rust, as seen in the pictures as very
dark spots. Those didn't stain our deck, in the case of the arm, nor our
anchor system, in the case of the joint, so they're pretty minor. However,
they do exist.

I could easily have wire-brushed it and painted it, but I wanted you to see
it in a fully-disclosed condition. You, of course, could do that yourself,
if you wanted it "prettier" :) We WILL be doing that (painting it) to our
rusty but entirely functional Delta when we move it over to the secondary
position.

Other than the above, I expect this anchor to be in perfect condition, as
it's never been stressed. The real thing (made by Lewmar) sells for about
$1900, with deals available down to about $1200 if you look hard enough.

Clones (such as this one) sell for substantially less. Take this one off my
hands in Riverside Marina in Fort Pierce, FL, for only $300. Or, arrange
your own shipping to someplace else. I'll put it on a pallet for you for
your shipping company to pick up after receiving your payment. If you're
not local, buy with confidence. A quick Google search for my name and our
boat's name will show you that we're very visible in the boating community,
and thus unable to "hide" if we thought to misrepresent or run off with your
money before you arranged pickup :)

This link http://tinyurl.com/75PoundAnchor will take you to the pictures of
this anchor. This link is just part of my overall gallery, if you'd care to
go exploring otherwise. Clicking any of the thumbnails will allow you to
see the original size, or steps in between, of these photos.

If your Rocna turns out to be anything like our Spade, you will like
it a lot. They are both very similar except for the roll bar on the
Rocna. Spade uses lead ballast in the tip to accomplish the same
thing. It almost always sets on the first try and sets very firmly.

Update as of November 27...

Since we were going to do our Delta, anyway, I thought, "What the heck. It
won't take long, and it will let us practice, first."

So, we sanded down every single rust spot to bare metal, lightly sanded the
entire thing, and used Rustoleum's Cold Galvanizing spray on it for many
coats. They claim up to 3 years' protection in any weather.

I stand by my original statement about the anchor - but you get a prettier,
regalvanized one in the same price, and you know the history. The photo
link in the original still works, and picks up where the original left off,
showing you, up close and personal, all the places which used to have rust
spots, as well as overall views.

Enjoy!!

I assume that you like the Delta better than the CQR? I've owned
both in the past, didn't particularly like either one but was really
disappointed in the CQR because of the near legendary reputation that
it once had. We replaced our last Delta with a Spade about 10 years
ago and have never looked back.

Well, we have returned to the FL east coast's dirtiest yard, after several
weeks of visiting family.

I'm again available to show or ship this anchor - if you saw my update to
this original, left below for reference, you also saw that I regalvanized
it, for practice, as we'll be doing that for our remaining anchor.

Same price, prettier anchor, but the pix link will take you to the before

I have to wonder why Skippy bothers with anchors at all. After all, what
good is any anchor, no matter how fancy or expensive, when a boat is
permanently on the hard? Better to invest in heavier extension cords for
that addiction to grid-style living. Skippy will never admit it but his
floating condo is now anchored firmly and irretrievably there in the
yard because the distaff side ball and chain holds stronger than any
patent anchor. LOL!

Hi, Bob (I thought you'd maybe fallen off a rig, or something!), and
Wilbur - sorry I'd missed your last,

We have, indeed, seemed to have grown roots. However, despite having lost
our help (a very long story not appropriate for this venue), again (the
first one we "graduated" into a "real" job), we soldier on with the final
level of our longboarded finishing of the epoxy fairing compound.

That's going along beautifully, if slowly, as this 66YO body doesn't have
the strength and endurance of the youngster(s) we had working with us, and
the same goes for the lovely Lydia. We're about half finished with the
starboard, the final, side. After that will come 10 gallons of barrier coat
(just cuz that's how much we have), then a few coats of YTBD'd ablative
bottom paint. We've also got a few chores which have surfaced along the
way, unrelated to the bottom, which have to be done before we can splash.

However, this, too, will end, and we'll be back in the water and headed
south.

As to the nasty assertions of windlass and personal strength, this new
anchor is the same weight as the one I'm selling. Now that it's the primary
anchor (and thus has direct access to the locker through the windlass), I
can tell you for sure, in the many times I've had it up and down during the
fitting for the modification, that the windlass handles it with aplomb (in
case you were wondering, that's the same as a lead, as in sinker - take
that, you English majors!).

And, if you'd like to see what it all looks like, this weekend I got many
pix uploaded, including that of the anchor system modification needed to
allow this to fit. Click the gallery link, then the 2011 refit, then the
anchor section. The modification is a great one, regardless of the anchor
used, as it allows a lever to do most of the work of getting the chain and
beginning of the shaft over the roller hump, previously an exciting time if
I didn't inch it along at that point, with the anchor flying upward as the
angle suddenly changed with the shaft going over the roller.

Finally, yes, I'm selling it because I prefer the Delta and Rocna to the
CQR. There are those for whom the CQR is the only answer; I have a very
heavy example of one available cheaply, for them :{))

I was hoping everybody would forget. It turns out that for civil trials
they don't do transcripts. All they do is provide a CD with a voice
recording of the trial. Since the trial lasted about 45 minutes, I
decided that transcribing it myself is not worth the bother nor is
paying a court recorder to do it at 35 bucks an hour. I did purchase
the CD and could send you a copy if you're really interested.

I'll burn a few copies this afternoon and get one to you in the mail
soon. It is a proprietary file format played only by the 'court

I'll e-mail you. The PO Box 1015 used to be correct but I had to get a new
one because of too much junk and harassing mail, etc.

Hi, Wilbur,

I had the same request, but snailmailing, earlier, which may have gotten
lost in the flurry of other stuff not related to anchors :{)) Email
certainly works, too, though. I presume you know mine - my name, all one

boats-or *with* boats.

In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's
the charm of it.

Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your
destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get
anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in

you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not."

Any luck yet with getting that court transcript?

I was hoping everybody would forget. It turns out that for civil
trials
they don't do transcripts. All they do is provide a CD with a voice
recording of the trial. Since the trial lasted about 45 minutes, I
decided that transcribing it myself is not worth the bother nor is
paying a court recorder to do it at 35 bucks an hour. I did
purchase
the CD and could send you a copy if you're really interested.

Yes, I would be interested in getting a copy and I'd be happy to pay
you some reasonable amount for your time and trouble.

Skippy, I saw your post with your snail mail addy. I've burned you and
WayneB each a copy already and will be sending them out tomorrow morning
so look for them a few days after that . . .

Wilbur, if you want, make an .ISO of it and email it to me. I'll
either put it on my server with a link here or I might can get it
transcribed and post it.

If the audio part is in a file, you could maybe .ZIP it and the
player, email each file separately, whatever.

Totally your call.

I zipped it and it's 38 megabytes. I could try e-mailing it to you if
you can make it available on a server.

Bad news. Gmail limits attachment size to 25 meg. Even breaking up the
folders into separate zip files the audio file is just too large to fit
the 25 megabyte threshold.

Sending you a CD might be the best way to go.

Send a CD if not a problem. I'll do something with it to make

just remove the "*"'s from my email address.

Here's an alternative:

I've used that program for years. You can ZIP the files, then use
hjsplit to split the ZIP into multiple files small enough to email. I
can then "join" them back together.

Might save you a few bucks for anyone else wanting it at the moment.

I tried that splitter, thanks it could be a handy thing later sometime,
but the Internet connection with Gmail is just way too slow. I waited
for five minutes and a single file of 10 megs (one of four) was less
than 1/4 sent. I'll burn you a CD and send it off tomorrow. Maybe when
you get the CD you could upload it to an FTP site or some such in case
somebody wishes to download it.

or you could make an mp3 and post it in a binary group/

Hmmmm...... what ya hiding ?

Obviously something since you jumped up and changed your terlet right
away,

Huh? I have the same toilet I've had for about three years. I bought it
new at West to replace an aging toilet that had cracks in the porcelain
bowl. I'm not hiding anything. Rather, I'm allowing interested folks who
might be ticketed by bully FWC officers to get some insight into their
dubious tactics which included the following:

1) cite you for one paragraph of the statute [327.53(1)] and then on the
court date amend it to another paragraph [327.53(2)] hoping you aren't
prepared for it.

2) hope you have to take a continuance because of the amended charge you
aren't prepared to litigate and hope you won't bother fighting any
longer especially if you are cruising out of the area soon.

3) after being granted the amended charge [327.53(2)] by the judge then
attempt to bring up another paragraph of the statutes that you did not
specify in the amendment [327.53(5)] - a clear violation of due process
rights

4) then hand the court a cropped version of the Code of Federal
Regulations to which that sub paragraph (5) refers to, which cropped
version conveniently leaves out half the CFR that proves your vessel is
in compliance. (to the judges credit, he pretty much ignored this and
later rebuked the state by saying he couldn't even consider subparagraph
5 because it would involve due process issues.)

5) when the state failed to prevail on their trickery they then went
back to the *original* sub paragraph (1) and pursued that even though
they said they were amending the charges to sub paragraph (2) because
they wrote the wrong sub-paragraph number on the citation.

6) then go off an a tangent and attempt to prosecute on personal hygiene
habits when the statute in question is only about vessel waste equipment
requirements.

7) attempt to redefine what a houseboat is [327.02(13)] by conveniently
leaving out the part after the *and* that says to be a houseboat a
vessel must have some condition that *precludes* its use as a means of
transportation.

8) then the judge asks for a dictionary to look up the definition of
"preclude" even after I stated the definition. (to prevent or make
impossible)

9) then the judge begrudgingly admitting he had to find me not guilty
but suggesting that the FWC/state should try to get the statutory
definition of *houseboat* changed by eliminating the part about any
condition that precludes its use as a means of transportation.

10) It all smacks of a kangaroo court.

When listening to the recording it would be wise to have a copy of the
statue to refer to. Here it is in it's entirely:

327.53 Marine sanitation.-
(1) Every vessel 26 feet or more in length which has an enclosed cabin
with berthing facilities shall, while on the waters of the state, be
equipped with a toilet. On a vessel other than a houseboat, the toilet
may be portable or permanently installed. Every permanently installed
toilet shall be properly attached to the appropriate United States Coast
Guard certified or labeled marine sanitation device.

(2) Every houseboat shall be equipped with at least one permanently
installed toilet which shall be properly connected to a United States
Coast Guard certified or labeled Type III marine sanitation device. If
the toilet is simultaneously connected to both a Type III marine
sanitation device and to another approved marine sanitation device, the
valve or other mechanism selecting between the two marine sanitation
devices shall be set to direct all sewage to the Type III marine
sanitation device and, while the vessel is on the waters of the state,
shall be locked or otherwise secured by the boat operator, so as to
prevent resetting.

(3) Every floating structure that has an enclosed living space with
berthing facilities, or working space with public access, must be
equipped with a permanently installed toilet properly connected to a
Type III marine sanitation device or permanently attached via plumbing
to shoreside sewage disposal. No structure shall be plumbed so as to
permit the discharge of sewage into the waters of the state.

(4)(a) Raw sewage shall not be discharged from any vessel, including
houseboats, or any floating structure in Florida waters. The operator of
any vessel which is plumbed so that a toilet may be flushed directly
into the water or so that a holding tank may be emptied into the water
shall, while the vessel is on the waters of the state, set the valve or
other mechanism directing the sewage so as to prevent direct discharge
and lock or otherwise secure the valve so as to prevent resetting.

(b) All waste from Type III marine sanitation devices shall be disposed
in an approved sewage pumpout facility.

(c) All waste from portable toilets shall be disposed in an approved
waste reception facility.

(5) Every vessel owner, operator, and occupant shall comply with United
States Coast Guard regulations pertaining to marine sanitation devices
and with United States Environmental Protection Agency regulations
pertaining to areas in which the discharge of sewage, treated or
untreated, is prohibited.

(6)(a) A violation of this section is a noncriminal infraction as
provided in s. 327.73. Each violation shall be a separate offense. The
owner and operator of any vessel shall be jointly and severally liable
for the civil penalty imposed pursuant to this section.

(b) All civil penalties imposed and collected pursuant to this section
shall be deposited in the Marine Resources Conservation Trust Fund and
shall be used: to implement, administer, and enforce this act; to
construct, renovate, or operate pumpout stations and waste reception
facilities; and to conduct a program to educate vessel operators about
the problem of human body waste discharges from vessels and inform them
of the location of pumpout stations and waste reception facilities.

(7) Any vessel or floating structure operated or occupied on the waters
of the state in violation of this section is declared a nuisance and a
hazard to public safety and health. The owner or operator of any vessel
or floating structure cited for violating this section shall, within 30
days following the issuance of the citation, correct the violation for
which the citation was issued or remove the vessel or floating structure
from the waters of the state. If the violation is not corrected within
the 30 days and the vessel or floating structure remains on the waters
of the state in violation of this section, law enforcement officers
charged with the enforcement of this chapter under s. 327.70 shall apply
to the appropriate court in the county in which the vessel or floating
structure is located, to order or otherwise cause the removal of such
vessel or floating structure from the waters of the state at the owner's
expense. If the owner cannot be found or otherwise fails to pay the
removal costs, the provisions of s. 328.17 shall apply. If the proceeds
under s. 328.17 are not sufficient to pay all removal costs, funds
appropriated from the Marine Resources Conservation Trust Fund pursuant
to paragraph (6)(b) or s. 328.72(16) may be used.
