Bob Hanging out in George Town last I heard. Probably have a hundred systems to fix on their decrepit boat before they can carry on. His idea to head to the Leeward Islands right into the prevailing winds and currents was always a dumb one. Probably the Bahamas is as far as they'll get this time around. Wilbur Hubbard |

Wilbur Hubbard This post is not meant to belittle the dubious duo. Rather, real cruisers often find out while in the Bahamas en route to other places that it doesn't get any better than the Bahamas. They might have come to this sensible conclusion and decided to stay, explore and enjoy. You can sail the Bahamas for years and not see them all. You've got to spend considerable time here and there to get the feel of the different islands and cultures. Wilbur Hubbard |

Not to worry, they've been hanging out in George Town on Grand Exuma Island all winter. They seem to have fit right into the regular winter cruising lifestyle there. They made the cruise south to George Town in typical fashion, a non-stop over night forced march from the north end of the Exuma's, thus missing a number of really nice spots along the way. http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?&glId=0sKGa9AJRCF45FaX5L5g6PLcZGvSb3 nMe |

I was just taking a look at the satellite imagery of that little day sail they took yesterday. You've got to love the quality and resolution. At the time the imagery was taken you can actually see the wind waves super-imposed on top of the big ocean swells, and the wave refraction patterns created by the small islands to the east of George Town. |

In some places, and George Town is one of them, the cruising community has better things to do than to hang out on the Internet. Probably limited Internet access there, too, especially in the better, more out of the way anchorages. Skippy has finally gotten the right idea about cruising and enjoying cruising for what it is - and it's not posting a bunch of crap to Usenet. I'd like to think he's finally taken my many hints about sailing and cruising for the sake of his own enjoyment and not being concerned with an audience that is mostly a clueless burden. OK, so I was wrong about you. Nice pics. But having been there, done that, ask yourself how concerned you were when you were there with sending daily or weekly trip reports to Usenet. Did you not, instead, become immersed in cruising for the sake of enjoying cruising and the more technology you tried to add to the mix the less enjoyable it made the cruising life? Wilbur Hubbard |

We have a fair amount of technology on the boat, probably more than many, and for the most part it contributes to the enjoyment of the cruising experience. We do not send daily reports but do check our EMAIL just about everyday one way or another, and do send regular position reports to shiptrak.org so that friends and family know we are doing OK. It doesn't take long. We cruised for years on small sailboats with only minimal complexity and had a lot of fun but things change. It would be difficult to go back to a boat with no mechanical refrigeration, minimal communications, and some of the other amenities we enjoy. |

Besides all that, posting experiences is simply the habit of a diarist. Doesn't take a big part of the day, and it is part of who you are. If you're a diarist you're do a diary. Can't help it. Same with trolls. If you're a troll, you'll keep trolling. Just part of who you are. Can't be helped. --Vic |

Good trolling will stay on the subject of the group, be creative and interesting, and generate thought and ideas. You can't **** off more than half the readers. Still some people will just hate it, because they don't like fiction. I enjoy it if I can learn something or be amused. It never distracts me from "serious" threads. It's just part of the usenet scenery, and can be likened to roadside vistas. Doesn't make me leave the road. Unfortunately, most trolls just post pure garbage, turning the vistas to blight. One talking to himself simply blights both sides of the road. Lately I just turn up the radio and look straight ahead. There are plenty of milestones along the way, Skip planting most of them lately. Now he's probably too busy lobstering. --Vic |

DSK So you do a little daysailing and racing round the buoys. Big deal. Sell that ugly stinkpot trawler which was a big mistake, buy a sailboat and go cruising and I'll think better of you.
