Weather along sailing routes

Hi,

I have just developed a new marine weather forecast site which I would
really like feedback from sailors on. The web site is located he

http://www.worldwildweather.com

One of my major concerns is whether the way you specify a sailing
route by waypoints and get a marine forecast along the route (called
Route Weather on my web site) is intuitive enough. What do you think?
I am also very interested in feedback on other things on the web site.

Best regards,
Jesper

Hi Capt. JG,

Thanks for your feedback. I don't get any errors on the browser I have
tested with. I obviously miss some. What browser are you using?

Do you prefer text based navigation or is it simply a matter of image
size?

Best regards,
Jesper

Make that "browsers I have tested with" instead of "browser I have
tested with";-)

The initial error was with IE7 with a refresh after I click on the map. I
get the error every time. I'm talking about clicking on the map on the left,
not the one on the right.

I tried with Opera (9.6) - doesn't have the error.

I tried with Firefox (3.0.4) - doesn't have the error.

I do prefer text navigation, but don't mind image nav., as long as I can
understand the result. If I click on my region on the map, I get three
images, but it's not clear that I got to the right place. Maybe bigger is
better... don't know if that'll help... definitely better resolution and
bigger would help, but obviously would affect loading time.

Have a great Christmas!

And so will anyone wanting to use the OP's service with satellite phone or over ssb (or whatever those Pactor thingies use).

Thanks, I am looking into it now.

Okay, now I understand. The right plot is supposed to be used to zoom
into your region. When you have zoomed in you can click on the left
plot to get a forecast on your location. So you should click on the
right plot first until you have zoomed to an appropriate level. I will
try to make this more clear (but I will have to think a while on how
to do that).

Have a great Christmas!

A merry Christmas to you too and thanks for the feedback.

Jesper

I haven't yet made an email service but that is definitely on top of
my todo list. I have however made a low bandwidth version of the web
site (or more accurately parts of the web site - it is only weather at
a specific location and weather along a route which is available in
the low bandwidth part):

http://www.worldwildweather.com/mobile

The low bandwidth version is made for PDA's and mobile phones with
good displays (otherwise the plots cannot be easily seen). It can
however be used on all devices (including normal computers) with a web
browser (best if they have Javascript support).

The low bandwidth web site does return plots (size approximately
50-100 kilobytes), so for really slow connections (like Iridium
satellite and maybe SSB - I am not aware of how fast a SSB connection
is) it is only marginally usable. I am therefore working on the
possibility to get a text forecast. This service will be available in
the first quarter of next year.

Best regards,
Jesper

Typical speeds with SSB/Pactor vary from 200 bits/sec up to about 4800
bits/sec, not very fast by today's standards.

Thanks for the information. I will keep that in mind when I make the
email solution.

Best regards,
Jesper
