Default trolling motors in parallel?

further to the recent discussion on bilge pumps as propulsion, does anyone
know the nett result of running twin trolling motors as opposed to a single
one?

the motivation for doing this would be keeping the cost down, as you can
often buy two smaller motors for less than the cost of a single large one,
even if the ratings for thrust add up. from a very simple perspective,
would you get the same approximate drive from say, two 15lb motors as you
would from a single 30lb?

as a side issue, are the power requirements for two smaller motors likely to
be greater or less than that of a single large motor?

Shaun
