Ben,
First - do not put a plain and uncorrupted @ddress on the usenet, the spambots will grab it. Next - if you have not ever built a boat before, I suggest you don't plan on building a vessel of any size alone on the first effort. Also - you might go and sign up for a week long boat build someplace. Wooden Boat runs one (I believe) in Port Townsend. It isn't cheap, but you will get at least a very good idea what you are signing up for. I wish you luck and good fortune. Like I said, I'm an engineer, and am looking for something challenging, since work doesn't help me in that regard anymore. The warehouse I will be buying (if not leasing) will be converted into lofts and possibly retail/restaurant space as well as space for building a sailboat (hopefully) and a hydrogen fuel cell Karman Ghia! ![]() boring you. -Ben John Cassara wrote: If you have the finances to buy a warehouse to house your boat project, why not just buy a reasonable boat and purchase a smaller investment property of which you can sub divide and rent at a profit. All the while enjoying sailing your boat! "Don Dando" wrote in message et... Benry, If this is your real email address I sent you my suggested list. Don Dando "Benry" wrote in message groups.com... Hello, My interest in building a sail boat has been mainly sparked by my roommate. I recently purchased the book From A Bare Hull : How To Build A Sailboat by Ferenc Mate and will be working through it before making any final decisions. I've also read everything at http://www.rutuonline.com/ (that I can find) and that is helping me getting the bug ![]() I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on what I need long term to build a small catamaran or single mast. I live in San Francisco, so space is also limited. We will probably be buying or leasing a warehouse for the project, so any tips on space requirements would also be appreciated. Lastly, what major tool purchases need to be made in the beginning in order to successfully complete the project? Thank you! -Benry |

At it was the most rewarding thing I have ever done, together with a good friend (it was a first for him too). We spent many hours just sitting down and enjoying our work for that night, accompanied by a good whisky. :-) Very well done. Thanks. Meindert |

oups.com... Wow ! sweet dagger board boat. Where you going to put the mast? Bob Through a hole in the front bench. It's an unstayed mast of 10" with a lugsail. Which reminds me that I still have some more pictures waiting to be put on the site. We made everything ourselves, including mast, spars and sails. See the whole story at www.customware.nl/boats Meindert |
