Help identifying galvanized tank

Hi to all,

I'm currently converting my venerable gasoline boat to diesel and i thought
of reusing the fuel tank. However, a very clever person looking at my web
journal: www.langevin.biz/marinette34/repowering.htm pointed me about a
galvanized fitting on the fuel tank which linked me to think that the fuel
tank might be galvanized inside.

I opened the observation hole and looked at it with a flashlight, the
bottom looked like irregular patterns on the metal. Could it be
electroplated zinc ?

cheers

Andre,

Any way you look at it the tank is probably no good. Diesel fuel reacts
with zinc, and zinc is used in galvanizing. Sorry for the bad news.

John
