Default Vetus waterlock mufler instalation?

Ray,
All the ones I've seen have the ports at the top.

This one is from 1976, the ports are labeled IN/OUT but I don't know
if it's upside down or not. It's a stainless oval cylinder with the
ports on one side and the mounting tang on the other. Does the tang go
up and the unit hangs down for mounting with the ports at the bottom?
